This Notice is intended for all individuals residing in the state of California who access ID.me’s website(s), apps, or any other products or services, or otherwise interact with ID.me in a manner involving the collection of Personal Information. This notice is part of ID.me’s Privacy Policy, but is limited in application to only those individuals residing in California. It explains some additional rights and details that were introduced by the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (the CCPA).
This notice lists the categories of Personal Information we have collected through any of the ID.me Services in the past 12 months. The particular categories of Personal Information collected by ID.me will vary depending on the specific Services you use, for example individuals who verify their identity for use with certain federal and state government agencies may be required to provide additional categories of Personal Information compared with those individuals verifying to qualify for group discounts. This notice is written to address the complete amount of Personal Information collected by ID.me across all of our Services, and so is likely to be overinclusive for some users. For more information on how we obtain this information, please refer to Sections 1, and if applicable 14, of our Privacy Policy.
Identifiers — including name, address, email address, account name, IP address, cookie ID, ID number assigned to your account, Social Security Number, drivers license number, passport or passport card number, state identification card, date of birth, and phone number.
Demographic information — including your age, gender, race, military/veteran status, citizenship (based on passport information provided). This type of Personal Information includes what is also considered a protected classification characteristic under pre-existing California or federal laws.
Biometric information – Photos on forms of identification (e.g., driver’s license, passport, student identification card, military identification card, or other state identification card(s). “Selfie” photographs or recorded video sessions provided as part of liveness detection as required for our NIST IAL2 verification standards.
Commercial information on your interactions with the ID.me or our Partners — including purchases and other commercial engagements conducted through ID.me Shop.
Internet or other electronic network activity information — including browsing activity on our sites and apps, browser type, country of origin, and browser language. This also encompasses other information that gets collected automatically when you use our sites and apps or interact with us through social media.
Geolocation data – including geolocation information inferred from your IP address or sourced from your device while capturing your liveness “selfie” photograph or recorded video session.
Professional or employment-related data — including any documentation you may provide in connection with your verification as a member of a certain group (e.g., military and/or veterans, first responders, etc.)
Inferences drawn from any of the above Personal Information — about your preferences, predispositions and behavior as they relate to the ID.me Services, including any analytics regarding the usability and performance of our Services.
Non-public education information (per the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. Section 1232g, 34 C.F.R. Part 99)) – including any educational transcripts and school identification cards that you choose to provide us.
Identity and/or group verification is the primary purpose of collecting the Personal Information you provide to ID.me. All of the categories of Personal Information you provide us may be used, individually or collectively, as proof for your identity verification.
Additionally, as part of ID.me Shop, we also provide you with the option to receive relevant communications regarding offers from our partners based on your group eligibility. Please note, if you are using ID.me Services in connection with legal identity verification for a state or federal government agency we will not use any Personal Information provided as part of your verification for any type of marketing or promotional purposes. Additional details about how we may use the Personal Information and how long we may retain that it can be found in our Privacy Policy.
ID.me will not sell, rent, or trade your Personal Information. ID.me will only transfer your Personal Information at your request, and with your consent, for use by third parties to verify your identity or group eligibility, or as required for the prevention of fraud or as otherwise permitted by law. Additional details about how we may use the Personal Information we collect can be found in Section 2 of our Privacy Policy.
Right to Know — You have the right to request that ID.me disclose certain information about how we have handled your Personal Information in the prior 12 months, including the:
categories of Personal Information collected
categories of sources of Personal Information
and/or commercial purposes for collecting their Personal Information
categories of third parties/with whom we have disclosed or shared their Personal Information
categories of Personal Information that we have disclosed or shared with a third party for a business purpose; and
categories of third parties to whom the consumer’s Personal Information has been sold and the specific categories of Personal Information sold to each category of third party (if applicable).
Right to Access – You have the right to request a copy of the specific pieces of Personal Information that we have collected about you in the prior 12 months.
Right to Deletion – You have the right to request that ID.me delete any Personal Information we have collected from or about you, subject to applicable restrictions detailed in §1798.105(d)(2) of the CCPA.
Submitting Your Privacy Rights Request You may exercise your rights to know and to delete your Personal Information by submitting a request using one of the following methods: (a) by submitting a request online through your ID.me member account; (b) submitting a request through the “ID.me Privacy Center” or (c) by calling the following toll free number 866-775-IDme (4363). You may also contact the ID.me Privacy team with questions at privacy@id.me.
Verifying of Your Identity We will need to verify your identity to respond to Requests to Delete and Requests to Know. If you have an account with us that is password-protected, we may verify your identity through our existing authentication practices for your account. If you are unable to log-in to your account, or you do not have an account, we may request that you confirm certain data elements in our possession as part of the process of proving your verification.
Timing for Our Response Please note that once you have submitted a Request to Know or Request to Delete, we will send you a receipt, acknowledging your request, within 10 business days. If, for some reason, you do not receive such a receipt within 10 days of your submitted request, please send us an email to privacy@id.me as an error may have occurred.
We use good faith efforts to respond to a verifiable consumer request within 45 days after its receipt. If we need more time (up to 90 days), we will inform you of the reason and the needed extension period in writing. If we cannot verify you within the 45 day time period, we may deny the request. If necessary, we may take up to an additional 45 calendar days to respond to the consumer’s request, for a maximum total of 90 calendar days from the day the request is received, provided that we will provides you with notice and an explanation of the reason that we will take more than 45 days to respond to the request.
Our partners may offer you certain financial incentives permitted by the CCPA that can result in different prices, rates, or quality levels. Any CCPA-permitted financial incentive offered to you by our partners will reasonably relate to your Personal Information's value and contain written terms that describe the program's material aspects. Participation in a financial incentive program requires your prior opt in consent directly with our partners, which you may revoke at any time.
We will not discriminate against you because you exercised your rights under the CCPA including: (1) denying goods or services; (2) charging different prices or rates for goods or services through discounts, benefits, or imposing penalties; (3) providing different level of quality of goods or services; or (4) suggesting that you will receive a different price, rate, quality, or level of goods or services.
Please note that if you do exercise your CCPA rights, you may not be eligible to receive discounts, cash back rebates and other benefits from merchants and other service providers since they will not be able to verify your identity and/or eligibility.
